Field Guide

Four field marks give away almost every disguised tower. Learn them here, then go find one. The annotated monopine below shows all four on a single specimen.

Field identification

How to spot a specimen

Mark a

Panels in the canopy

Look near the top for flat, rectangular antenna panels. Leaf “socks” help, but the corners usually give it away.

Mark b

Suspicious symmetry

Real trees are untidy. A specimen grows branches in tidy, evenly spaced rings all the way up.

Mark c

A trunk with no taper

The trunk is a steel pole, so it stays the same width from bottom to top. Bark texture is often painted or molded.

Mark d

A fenced compound

Check the base. Gray equipment cabinets, a gravel pad and a chain-link fence are the habitat of every Cellularis.
